Decaversity is an online entrepreneurship mentorship program founded and designed by industry experts, entrepreneurs, and VCs ready to help middle and high school students take charge of their futures. Our interactive, comprehensive programs challenge students to transform big ideas into business plans, widen their perspectives, and use what they learn to build impactful startups inspired by their interests and passions.
Decaversity’s business entrepreneurship programs are built for students around the world in grades 6 through 12 who are passionate about cultivating and building their ideas while developing lifelong leadership skills. Decaversity students come from diverse backgrounds with individual interests ranging from medical technology and transportation to app building and financial infrastructure.
Our programs teach students invaluable skills while instilling a growth mindset to set them up for current and future success—we use their spirit for entrepreneurship to help them get there. However, not every student we work with wants to become a future business leader; some want to broaden their horizons as they work to become investment bankers, doctors, lawyers, authors, or scientists.
Becoming your own CEO means becoming a leader and team player, as well as mastering your ability to make informed choices as you take creative approaches to challenges. These skills are crucial in any career path. Decaversity teaches students the soft and leadership skills required to confidently navigate any career they choose.
Having an entrepreneurial spirit doesn’t just mean you want to start your own business venture. It means you have the initiative to identify issues in the world around you and the courage and creativity to consider solutions. This growth mindset will serve you well in college, work, and life, no matter where it takes you!
Decaversity helps students build hard and soft skills and find their passion. But why is this crucial for students? Top colleges, businesses, and startups love to see students act on their passions and dedicate themselves to their personal missions.
Everyone is passionate about something, whether it's sports, video games, reading, art, scientific discovery, research, or something else—if you can name it, someone is probably passionate about it. These passions impact your personality, actions, and thought processes to make you, you. Developing your passions early is key to self-development, growth, and success!
Your passions pave the road to differentiating yourself and showcasing your individuality; we encourage Decaversity students to unapologetically pursue them. Decaversity helps us take your passions one step further; for example, a student who loved traveling with their pets created a new rideshare app focused solely on pet transport, whether to a vet clinic or dog park. Another took their passion for health and access to develop a system for students in their city to match with an available doctor faster.
The core program is made up of seven one-hour-long sessions spread out over seven weeks. Students who add Idea Explorer support to their program will have three additional sessions on top of the core program offerings.
You do not need to have an exact project in mind, but it is important that you have some ideas about what interests you.
We offer the option to bundle together the Idea Explorer to our Core Programs. This adds three sessions to the start of the program and allows students to explore different areas of interest with their mentor one-on-one. These sessions give the students more exposure to different topics and an opportunity to decide what projects excite them the most.
Once students have their broad project idea, they’ll start working with their mentors on the core program.
There are no course prerequisites needed to sign up for our programs. Decaversity works with students with a broad range of interests, from healthcare and legal processes to arts and economics. We cater to the diverse needs of every student.
Yes, you can totally do that. Due to our focus on personalized learning, we are able to take only a limited number of students every year as part of our program and thus operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you would like to reserve your spot and start the program at a later date, please inform your academic director so they can plan your program start date accordingly.
As part of the program, you would have weekly discussion meetings with your mentor. Each meeting would have a required pre-reading assignment so that you can have engaging conversations with your mentor. After every meeting, there would be case studies and business plan-related assignments so that we can continue to progress in developing a solid business plan for your idea.
Absolutely! You can reach out to your mentor throughout the program.
Our curriculum is created by some of the leading Silicon Valley entrepreneurs who have gone on to raise more than $4B in venture capital from some of the world’s best VCs. The curriculum is centered around real-life skills, modern-day knowledge of researching and creating groundbreaking ideas, and case studies of some of the most iconic companies of our time.
The reading materials provided will be broken down into the following sections:
You will also get access to materials created by the faculty of Harvard University, which you and your mentor will go through and discuss in your sessions.
Once your business plan is created under the guidance of your mentor, our writing support team will start working with you to get you ready for journal submission. For students looking to publish their business plans, our writing support team will start providing you with detailed edits on your business plan. Writing Support occurs asynchronously with feedback shared via email.
Once your business plan is edited to perfection and ready for journal submission, our writing support team will guide you through the journal submission process.
Each business journal has its own publication acceptance timelines, but on average, we see two to three months as a timeframe from the time of submission for journals to get back on their publication decision.
Besides the accomplishment of becoming a published author, there is a lot of value in having your work published. First and foremost, your work demonstrates your passion and ability to unapologetically deep-dive into your interests—this adds an angle of differentiation to any student’s profile.
This differentiation can serve you well in the college admissions and scholarship/internship application processes. Top-ranked colleges want to enroll students who will add new perspectives to the incoming class and take the initiative to contribute on campus. Publishing your business plan not only demonstrates your commitment to your passions but also that you’re a go-getter ready to positively change the world around you. Scholarship committees equally seek students they deem will use their awards to make the most of their education. Decaversity programs can set students up for college and scholarship success!
Absolutely! On the successful completion of the program, you would receive a signed certificate of completion from our Dean, which would also stand as a record for submission when applying for high schools, internships, colleges, and scholarships.
Most students we partner with complete their program during the school year because they are designed to be flexible and easy to integrate into your weekly schedule. Our programs add academic and intellectual enrichment and can be a great supplement to the skills and knowledge you learn in class. We also support students who wish to enroll in our programs over the summer.
